The PWC Democratic Committee condemns the actions of Wednesday, January 6, 2021 by the President of the United States in which he directed domestic terrorists to destroy our Democracy by staging an overthrow of the United States Government.

On August 24, 1814, the United States Capitol was attacked and breached by a foreign power. It was looted and set aflame. 207 years later our Capitol, the very symbol of our Democracy, was attacked and ransacked by a mob of Pro-Trump domestic terrorists attempting a coup d’état. This attempted destruction of the principles of American Democracy was directed by the current President of United States, Donald J. Trump and Virginia 1st Congressional District Representative Rob Wittman. As one of the leaders of the attempted overthrow of the United States Government, Wittman must be indicted by
a Grand Jury, brought to trial and convicted for sedition (18 US Code 2384) and insurrection (18 US Code 2383) and receive the maximum sentence of thirty years.

At the Commonwealth level, GOP Chairman Rich Anderson, a long-time Trump supporter, has blamed Democrats for leading the coup d’état. Anderson continues his delusional thinking and supports the unhinged President. Locally, PWC GOP Chair Tim Parrish has failed to acknowledge Trump’s role in the insurrection and has
not called for his resignation or removal despite his prior service as a US Marine who took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic.

The PWC Democratic Committee condemns this attack on our Capitol and Trump’s enablers who all must resign immediately and be replaced with true American Patriots who would never consider leading or supporting an overthrow of the Government of the United States. We will not allow this history to be repeated
